Back in August 2025, I put car insurance on my vehicle in my name. It was previously on my boyfriend's policy. He knew I was doing this, but he never canceled his policy. He figured it would auto cancel because i was using the same company, Progressive, and he never thought to check. In January '26, when he was renewing, he noticed it was still on his policy and he was paying for it that whole time. He asked them about a refund and found out that he would owe them if they went back and changed the policy. So, nothing for him to do about it. Fast forward to March and I find out about this. So, I'm thinking since it was covered under his policy, I should be getting a refund. I called them and they told me that they cannot do that because I just renewed my policy in February. I asked her why their system wouldn't flag something like this and let me know, or him, that there were 2 policies at the same time. She said that it is my responsibility to find out about other policies that might still be active, even though it is the same insurance company. They take no fault in this at all and said I will not be getting a refund. This is actually the second person I talked to. The first person said I only needed to send proof. l did that and was just asking about the progress when I was told it wasn't going to happen. Anybody have advice on anything more I can do?
