I was in an accident last week where the other driver ran through a solid red light and we collided in the intersection. Luckily everyone was OK and the driver was honest and admitted to both the police officer and my insurance that they ran the red light. I do not have rental insurance so I am currently paying for a rental out of pocket. I spoke with my insurance and they are considering me to have no fault and expect the other insurance company will agree since the other driver has admitted fault. They said I will need to pay my deductible to the repair shop but that they then will go to the other insurance company to cover it and pay me back. I asked if they would also be able to ask about covering my rental but they said they could/would not get involved with that since I do not have rental coverage with them. Any tips on when to contact the other insurance company about getting reimbursed for the rental? Should I just wait until my car is repaired (could be a bit since just over $10k in damages) or contact them sooner? The only contact I have so far from the other driver's insurance is a letter saying they are in the process of investigating the accident to determine liability,

Ask them immediately why would you wait till your car is repaired?
Why didn’t you just go directly to the at fault insurance?
Call them right away. Insurance companies get a preferred rate at rental car companies and they will not reimburse you the retail rate.
In many areas they get a rental at $25-$35 a day compared to the $50 or mor that you would pay just walking in.
Call today. Whatever you’re paying for a rental is more than they pay for a rental, so even if they do eventually reimburse you, it would likely be adjusted to reflect the rates they would get.
They may not agree right away if there’s a potential limits issue or if there are coverage or liability issues.
