I have been doing some hiring in India on the side while running my main work, and one thing that caught me off guard was how quickly things move from talent discussions to compliance issues. Contracts, payroll structure, local regulations all of it starts to matter even for a small team.
In one situation, I was helping a founder who only needed one or two hires, but setting up an entity felt like overkill. That is when I started looking into how others handle this and came across EOR setups. Somewhere in that process I also noticed things like the Wisemonk Partner program, which is structured more like a referral model where you connect companies facing hiring or compliance challenges and the service provider handles onboarding, payroll, and ongoing management.
It made me think about how partner programs like this sit in an interesting space between consulting and operations, especially when you are already having these conversations.
For those here who have hired internationally, did you build your own setup or rely on external solutions early on? Curious what worked better in the long run.
When hiring becomes more about compliance than talent
