Would it be a bad decision to open the gold skymiles card just for SUB? I am booking a flight for end of May and they have a $500 SUB, first free checked back, and priority boarding if I buy a delta flight within the first 6 months. I do fly about once a year using delta out of DTW, but I would probably just use the SUB and downgrade to the blue card no annual fee card. I just do not know if there are any negatives to this or if this is a bad decision. Any advice?

No judgement in this sub. That’s what we call “churning” and is what many here do anyway. Just make sure you wait a full year and for the annual fee to post before you do or you’ll get on Amex’s shit list.
