HOR is California and currently stationed outside of CA, but still stateside. For the last three years I’ve had no issues maintaining my CA registration with insurance from my current state. I registered my vehicle this year at the beginning of February and had some delays and after speaking with CA DMV they said they have a new policy, as of March 1st, that they are not accepting out of state insurance and only CA insurance…so I won’t be seeing my registration anytime soon…nor the $250 I paid for it.
Apparently this was an internal memo at the DMV that was sent out and the website was recently updated. If I had known this I obviously wouldn’t have registered my vehicle with them. They said even though my paperwork is dated before March 1st they cannot process it. And a refund process would take up to 8 months after providing proof of registration with current state. DMV said I could ask progressive insurance for a “California Endorsement” and they never heard of it. Spoke to another DMV rep and they also never heard of it.
Wondering if members in the same situation as me had just their registration cancelled outright March 1st, due to incompatible insurance.
New info on the site: “At the top of your proof of insurance card, “California” MUST be included. If not, you must get California insurance.”
New California DMV Registration Policy??
