I’ve taken so many of the low hanging fruit for frugality in my life. As for coffee, I make all the obvious savings choices, wholesale beans, grinder I’ve owned for 23 years, etc. Coffee is one of my last little luxuries.

Tonight I was setting up my coffee maker for the morning – grinding three cups’ worth of beans, anything more is excess that disrupts my sleep and makes me jittery, thinking of how good it smells but how it was making my work-related jitters worse, and how I need to buy another $28 bag of beans that may last me until June, and I thought, ‘is this more trouble than it’s worth?’

It seems like a good idea to stop drinking coffee altogether. My nerves would be calmer. It would force me to go to bed earlier and focus on restful sleep. I wouldn’t be hooked on another recurring payment obligation.

I am excited because I found a new level of frugality right when I had run out of ideas. I know it’s going to suck for a few days and I need an accountability partner who has been there.

Hope giving up coffee goes well for you! I only drink decaf because caffeine makes me jittery – this doesn’t save me money, of course

I am coffee-free… I feel like the most liberated person on earth not having an active caffeine addiction. You will soon feel prideful and $28 richer hehe

I enjoy drinking coffee but I think it’s about how much you drink. If you feel like you drink too much, have you considered weaning yourself down?

I have 1 double shot espresso every morning. The beans cost $7 a bag and lasts me 2 weeks. $3.50 per week on beans is within my budget. It’s much cheaper than buying a coffee.

I didn’t wash my coffee mug for 10 years, now I can just put hot water in it and get coffee for free!

If your goal is to really quit caffeine, I have done it a few times. I’ve never been a coffee drinker though.

For cost effectiveness, I have switched to caffeine tablets. I can take the same dosage every morning and it takes no prep, which is even better!

    6. I’m contemplating giving up soda. I have given it up during Covid; thought I was having palpitations, turns out it was just bad reflux. It’s a habit that’s gotten too pricey and now I have a couple little ones that I can’t divert those dollars to.

I think it’s worth experimenting with, either you cut the habit, or you find a renewed appreciation for a morning ritual. It will add more value to your cup of coffee in the mornings if you decide to keep it. Best of luck!
