Hi,

    I’ve had my credit card since I was a teenager. At the time, it had a $500 limit. They’ve since revised that to $5000, but the card itself doesn’t offer much in the way of rewards / etc.

    I’m looking to open a second card with a higher limit to decrease my utilization percentage / earn better rewards. I plan to keep the current card open as it’s the oldest account on my credit report.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks!

    Second card recommendation?

      What is your current card? You might be able to request a product change to make that older card more useful.

      If you’re just starting out, the easy answer is to try to get a 2% cashback card like the Wells Fargo active cash, or similar. This sub has a good list here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/list_of_flat_cashback_cards_with_benefits/](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/list_of_flat_cashback_cards_with_benefits/)

      Beyond that, you’ll need to tell us a bit more about your plans and spending habits. e.g. is most of your card spend going to gas, groceries, dining out, etc.

    2. There’s a ton of good ones, but it depends on your spend (e.g. dining vs groceries?) and purpose (e.g. cash back vs travel points?). Some suggestions:

      * Chase Freedom Unlimited: 5x hotels/flights, 3x dining/drugstores, 1.5x misc
      * Chase Freedom Flex: 5x rotating categories, 5x hotels/flights, 3x dining/drugstores, 1x misc
      * Savor: 5x hotels/flights, 3x dining/groceries/entertainment/streaming, 1x misc
      * Autograph: 3x travel/gas/transit/dining/streaming, 1x misc
      * Any of the 2x misc cards (e.g. Citi Double Cash, Wells Fargo Active Cash)
