I was automatically put on SAVE. Why can’t they just automatically put my loans back on REPAYE? Has this been answered? Should I ChatGPT it?

Why can’t SAVE just go back to REPAYE?

    1. All plans made via rulemaking instead of Congress are gone. They are being phased out. There’s no going back.

    2. You shouldn’t ask Chat GPT *anything* important. It’s a chatbot programed to validate you.

    3. There’s plenty of legal precedence that has been posted here and in other places that says SAVE should have reverted to REPAYE – basically that the *changes* are what were deemed illegal, not the repayment program itself, since REPAYE was already legal for so long.

For some reason (hint: political reasons), that was completely overlooked in how the law was interpreted in this case. Kind of like how the SCOTUS said “Biden’s forgiveness plan is clearly not illegal, but we defer to congress on whether to allow it because of the cost.”

The only reason this is illegal *now* is because of new legislation that did not exist when we signed for our loans. I don’t understand it or how there aren’t more valid challenges to make, but it’s the current reality.

REPAYE was sunset as part of the injunction on save and as for the reason it’s because republicans actively want to punish people with student loans because educated people don’t vote repuiblican and their base loves it
