Thinking about when I was a kid, my mom would buy 10-15 or more loaves of bread and freeze it. She would also buy multiple gallons of milk and freeze it.
I can remember the frozen bread and having to put it out on the counter to thaw. It was basically fresh.
I can’t remember how the milk was after freezing and re-thawing. I could be remembering wrong though and she may have bought powdered milk.
My mom had 4 kids at home so she planned to be prepared in her own ways.

I still do this if I find a really good deal. You can freeze cheese too.
I’ve only done milk once because we were going on vacation. It seemed perfectly fine.
I store my bread in the freezer all the time because I just don’t eat it fast enough. I bake it, slice it up, bag it and put it in the freezer.
We used to freeze gallons of milk all the time. I couldn’t tell the difference when it thawed. The only sign that gave away the fact it was previously frozen was sometimes the container would be bowed out.
I don’t drive so will keep bread in the freezer to avoid extra trips to the shops.
