Not even trying to flex here, I am still kind of in shock tbh.

I have always been one of those people who knows scholarships exist but never actually puts in the time because it feels like a full time job. Every time I tried before, I'd end up on random sites with outdated listings, weird requirements or stuff I clearly didn't qualify for. Gave up pretty fast every time.

This weekend I decided to try a different approach because tuition stress is getting real. Instead of randomly googling scholarships 2026 and going down a rabbit hole, I focused on only applying to stuff I actually had a shot at.

Here is basically what I did:

Stopped applying to anything super generic or ultra competitive.

Focused on smaller/niche scholarships that match my background.

Filtered by deadlines that were actually active (this alone saved me hours).

Reused the same core essay and just tweaked it slightly for each one.

Only applied to ones where i met like 90-100% of the criteria.

The biggest difference though was using a scholarship search tool that actually matched me with relevant ones instead of dumping a giant list. It basically pre-filtered everything so I wasn't wasting time scrolling through junk.

I knocked out like 15-20 applications in one weekend without burning out, which has literally never happened to me before.

Fast forward a bit and I just got confirmations totalling around $12k. Not all from one place obviously, but stacked together it is kind of insane how quickly it added up.

Biggest takeaway: It is not about grinding hundreds of applications, it is about applying smarter. Most of the time we are wasting effort on scholarships we were never going to win anyway.

Curious if anyone else has had luck focusing on smaller targeted scholarships instead of the big popular ones?

Landed $12k in college scholarships in one weekend with almost zero effort, here's exactly what I did.

Congrats! That’s a huge relief! I’m curious to know what scholarship search tool you used?

nice work mate, that’s actually a solid haul for one weekend

the targeting approach makes heaps of sense – I’ve seen people burn themselves out throwing applications at everything including stuff they’re clearly not gonna get. your filtering strategy is pretty much how I approach job applications too, quality over quantity every time

curious what tool you used for the matching? always skeptical of those search platforms but if it actually filtered properly instead of just dumping generic lists that could be worth checking out

12k is legit gonna make a difference, especially with how mental tuition costs are getting these days
