Everyone knows that it’s much cheaper to buy a whole watermelon and cut it up yourself, as opposed to buying the pre-cut ones. I never buy pre minced garlic because I find it cheaper and even better taste wise to mince fresh garlic at home. I’ve also started making my own taco seasoning at home and it tastes just like the old el passo brand. Plus, those ready made seasonings can often contain high levels of sodium and preservatives.
Which grocery store items are not worth buying/better to make at home?

Chicken. Kinda
Went through a period of buying breasts to bulk cook for work. Then woody breast started to be more and more of a thing.
Now I buy a whole chicken which is often a loss leader anyway.
So 2kg of frozen breast for £12 or X2 medium bird for £9
I’ll strip the thighs and wings for a casserole, breast for bulk cook lunch and then every 3rd bird make a stock..
I know it’s kinda generic answer here but I’ve tried bread. I don’t consume that much so the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze for me there.
Pretty easy to do your vanilla extract. Buy a bottle of vodka or rhum, pitch in vanilla beans and wait. After few weeks, you have a full bottle of vanilla extract that taste good and keep long.
orange juice, sliced cheese, precooked rice, cornbread, guacamole, salsa
