Hey everyone, looking for some advice on a situation I’m dealing with.
My friend was driving my car and accidentally hit another car. The damage seems minor (a bit of the black bumper is broken). Police came, took my insurance details, and said the report will be available in 3–5 days.
My insurance is with Progressive Insurance, and I already see a claim showing up -probably because the other party is also insured with Progressive, so it got reported quickly.
Here’s what I’m worried about:
• I really don’t want my insurance premium to go up now or in the future
• I also don’t want my friend to pay out of pocket - it would be a financial burden
• My current policy is ending in a week, and I’ve already renewed for next six months.
• As of now, I don’t see any increase in the renewed premium
Is there any way to handle this situation so that:
• My insurance doesn’t increase too much (or at all)
• My friend doesn’t get financially impacted
• The other party is still properly taken care of
I know you can’t have everything perfect in these situations, but I’m trying to understand the best possible approach here.
Friend drove my car, minor accident – will my insurance go up? Any way to handle this smartly?

It’s already set. There’s literally nothing you can do at this point to change things. Your insurance company will take care of the other car (assuming you have adequate limits), and your insurance record and your friend’s driving record will both show the accident and claim.
Your friend should not be out of pocket any moeny as long as your limits are adequate. Nothing you can do about rate increases at your next renewal beyond shopping around.
Your insurance will not go up until your next renewal. Impossible to know what it could be what the rates will be in 6 months.
