So I am new to the credit card game as a hobby and had a questions for card choice. Background is I'm in the military so my Chase and AMEX cards have no AF while I'm in. I have 7 years left to keep playing aroudn and decide which, if any set ups I'll carry forward into retirement. My current set up with my intended uses)

    Venture X (everyday purchases/rental cars)

    Saphire Reserve (hotels, particularly IHG)

    AMEX Gold (food and groceries)

    AMEX Platinum (plane tickets)

I just got an offer from AMEX for the business blue plus (60k welcome bonus) which could replace the Venture X as my daily spender and really bring everything into one eco system. However, I dont know if it is worth it since I would potentially loose the 10x points at Hertz (while keeping president's circle status) and other fringe benefits like the phone protection.

Any suggestions on that change or any other changes would be appreciated. I know balancing points across three systems is bulky and can be difficult but they all have mostly the same transfer partners.

Card set up questions for Military.

The Blue Business Plus is solid for non-category spend at 2x but you’re right about losing those Venture X perks. Hertz 10x and phone protection are actually pretty valuable if you use them regularly

Since you’ve got the military waived fees I’d probably keep the current setup – having flexibility across different programs isn’t the worst thing especially when you’re not paying for it. Maybe reassess closer to when those fees would kick in

Probably worth just running what you have since it already covers everything well, and only adding the business card if you want simpler tracking. Then just see which points you actually use most and trim later instead of forcing one setup now.
