Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t something similar tried in the ’70s in the US. And didn’t it lead to supply shortages?
I would think that having a set percentage-profit-level based on their usual profit levels could work as companies wouldn’t experience a reduction in profits.

Caps wont work! Water, energy and transportation should not be private and profit oriented at all. Just re-nationalise them. Stop this nonsense…
