Bilt Rewards quietly changed how rent payments work — and it’s NOT just about rewards.

You will see your credit card statement you paid in your bank statement and a second auto payment for your rent. Your account will get twice because rent is no longer part of credit.

    From BILT:

How the Housing-only rewards option works.

When you use your Bilt Card for a housing payment under this option, Bilt automatically pays off that portion of your card balance from your linked bank account within 24 hours. This is done so that your large rent or mortgage payments don't use up your credit limit or sit as a balance that could accrue interest.

    Here’s the simple breakdown:

    OLD SYSTEM (what everyone expected):

    • Rent posted like a normal credit card charge

    • You paid it with your statement balance

    • No special actions required

    • Very low risk of payment issues

NEW SYSTEM (what they switched to):

    • Rent no longer behaves like a normal charge

    • New “Bilt Cash / buyback” system to earn points on rent

    • Requires additional spend to unlock rewards

    • More moving parts + manual logic

THE REAL ISSUE (not being emphasized):

    – Payment behavior may have changed

    – Rent may not be handled purely through your statement anymore

    – Potential for autopay / timing confusion

    – Higher risk of unexpected or duplicate withdrawals

    WHY THIS MATTERS:

Most people only saw messaging about “rewards changes”

→ Not how their actual rent payment flow could change

That’s a big deal when real money is moving.

    WHAT TO DO:

    • Check your recent transactions carefully

    • Verify how your rent is actually being paid

    • Be cautious with autopay until you understand the new system

Not saying it’s a scam — but this is a much more complex system than before, and complexity = risk.
