I just got approved for Discover card last week and it showed up in mail today. I also got 2 more offers for Discover cards so decided to apply for another one on my mac. I was denied and it said I'd get a letter in the next week or so explaining why.

A few minutes later, I got a text message from a shortcode of 21424 saying:
Discover: Thanks-we received your card application but need more information by 04/21/2026. Visit discover/com/checkstatus to finalize. Text STOP to quit.

I clicked it. It asked for my social and birthdate. I put it in. It then said I was approved for $10k.

The URL it took me to was discovercard.com so I didn't think it was a scam. It happened so quick and since it showed up just a few minutes after I applied online, I figured it was legit. I don't know how else anyone could have gotten my phone number from my application on Discover just a few minutes earlier.

I haven't gotten an email after that.

Did I get scammed? If so, what should I do now?

Applied for Discover card on laptop, got denied, then got a text message asking me to go to discover.com/checkstatus – did I get scammed?

What did they say when you called the customer service number on the back of your existing card to check?

If you got approved for one last week and it came in the mail, why did you need another one? Spacing out your card applications a little bit is important for credit score building.
