Furthermore, time is extremely valuable. So not having to spend an additional five minutes every morning to put contacts in, is an economic upgrade.

I had Lasik in 2004 to correct 20/500 vision. I was hella blind. My eyesight regressed to a -0.75 myopic prescription a year ago. So this February, I pulled the trigger, and spent another $3,100 for PRK. I've no regrets.

Spending $3,100 for PRK (or Lasik) is better than spending $720/year on Contact Lenses

    1. I had LASIK around 2008 and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I think my eyes have weakened some since then, but I still see substantially better than I did beforehand.

And yes, not dealing with contacts or glasses is wonderful and saves money.

It’s been years since I was told this so maybe it’s changed but I would always hear lasik was great but only lasted about 20 years. While it may be good for older people, someone going will have to get the procedure again later down the road. Probably still the more frugal option to get lasik though.

    3. 1. Glasses cost less than contacts.

      2. There are risks associated with this surgery. People should know this before deciding.

I get my contacts for $200 a year and it takes 15 seconds to put on my contacts , at most.

    5. I had LASIK 22 years ago and would do it all over again if I needed to. I used flex spending and at least saved taxes on the money I used for the surgery.

If you don’t mind me asking how old are you OP? I got Lasik in my 20’s. Now almost 10 years later my vision is just slightly worse. Thinking about when I should get Lasik again if eligible.

I do agree Lasik was one of the best decisions I made and it benefited me financially. I have not paid for glasses or contacts in the past almost 10 years, I no longer deal with the discomfort of wearing contact lenses for special occasions, and I’m no longer blind in the morning, in the shower, etc.

People need to do a lot of research before getting Lasik. So many develop chronic dry eye problems, really terrible enough to take away from their quality of life. I have heard horror stories of many people regretting Lasik.

My contacts are 100% covered by my insurance because my prescription is so strong. Worth asking your insurance about for sure.
