I have the AMEX BCP and have already hit my $6K grocery limit for 2026 (Family of five, HCOL area, and my value system is aligned with really good food. It’s truly where I like to do my spending).

I also have the Verizon Visa, but I don’t love how you can only use the rewards for a cell phone bill credit. I’m still sitting on $450 of amassed Verizon Visa rewards from last year when this happened with my AMEX BCP card, and it’s taking forever to draw them down because my Verizon cell bill is only $41/month. 😅

So if AMEX BCP and Verizon Visa were out, what would be your next grocery card for a family that spend between $1,500-$2,000 on groceries.

    Groceries, groceries, and more groceries.

Try Citi custom cash card. 5% up to $500 per month. You and SO (if applicable) can apply and get $1000 at 5% cashback per month.

Also, Capital One Savor has unlimited 3% cashback on grocery.

AAA Daily Advantage for sure. 5% cash back on groceries on up to $10,000 per year spend, so if you just use it for groceries it’ll get you through an additional $800+ each month

If you want to be more adventurous, the Chime Prime does $1,500/mo at 5% but requires $3,000/mo direct deposit to Chime

Freedom Flex and Discover each typically have grocery stores as 5% categories for one quarter a year. Capped at $1,500 per quarter. It’s something.

Do you want points or cashback?

Cashback, or points when paired with various Venture cards: Savor, 3% uncapped, no AF.

Points only: Amex Gold, 4x with $25k cap, $325 AF. AF can be offset with an assortment of credits, which can be annoying but probably worth it at least for the SUB.

Citi Custom Cash has a low cap like BCP, so it probably isn’t worth the effort.

If you spend up to $24k on groceries per year that’s more than most credit card category limits are willing to offer. If you want to keep it simple, find a 3% unlimited reward card. Otherwise get multiple of other cards.

Scan through !cashback to see if any of those fit your spending needs.

The biggest question here is how does someone with a family of five, or even a family of one, have a $41 Verizon bill?

Sounds like chime prime time. Mix with PayPal debit then get a Kroger for 5%.

      Have fun !
