I would like my wife to cancel our gold card, but given we have a lot of points, our option is probably just to downgrade. my wife also holds a amex blue and delta card.

my question is am I correct in our only option being green, or because she has the blue and delta card would be keep points?

I have plat myself, and we are not fans of CLEAR, so don't see any benefit to green other than keeping points.

am I missing any options or is gold to green really the only option if I want to keep points.

all points were earned with the gold

What do you mean by “Amex blue”? Is it an MR earning card? If so, that would work to keep your points after cancelling the gold. If the only MR earning card you have is the gold, you would need to downgrade to green or open another MR card before cancelling. Most people in your situation use the Blue Business Plus for this purpose.

Your only options to do away with the Gold are to cancel or downgrade to a lower fee *charge* card, of which the Green is the sole one. You can see if they’ll offer you a retention bonus to help sway the decision though.

You can, however, cancel and keep your MR points as long as you have *any* MR earning product *already* open. The BBP or MR Checking accounts being the only fee-free options.

I’ve been thinking about canceling too. Does Amex give prorated refunds? I paid the AF in October.
