I just bought a house in a subdivision. Now, my favorite house in the subdivision is up for sale. It's one i've wanted for awhile, but never been for sale. ok to purchase?

Is it weird to buy house in same subdivision?

    1. Assuming you can afford it, why would this be an issue? Live where you want, and it’s none of anybody else’s business.

Absolutely! My friend this this – drove the riding lawn mower to the new house and all. Get what you want!

Seems like a crazy expense, but if you have the money and are willing to spend it on this

I own 2 homes in the same neighborhood and rent one out. A number of people in my neighborhood have moved within the neighborhood. Not weird at all

    5. My parents did when I was a kid. We moved 2 blocks to a bigger nicer home. I think it was 3 years after they bought the first house.

I bought in January. Found out they’re extending the neighborhood once they get permits etc to build a bridge over the marsh. Supposedly this takes years. Builder said they’ll be bigger lots (because of topography) and only like 10% more expensive. I love my neighborhood and these schools so I’m going to be first in line once they start building over there 🤷🏻‍♀️

    7. Are you asking if it is a good financial decision, and keeping the current home as a rental? That depends on the financial numbers, how much it rents for etc.

To buy then sell? To buy then sell in the same neighborhood will cost you nearly 10% of the home price between closing costs on both sides and real estate commission. So financially not a great place to start.

But not everything is about money. If you can afford it and you want to spend your money this way, well it’s your money

    8. I had a neighbor move across the street then around the corner so they had 4 houses in our neighborhood. Whatever floats your boat as long as you can afford it.

Mortgage underwriter may ask you to justify the purchase since it’s in the same neighborhood. I moved 15 minutes away and had to do that. It was easy for me because the new house has twice as many bedrooms.

    10. We moved like five minutes down the road. Some friends/neighbors were confused about why, but we liked the new house layout and neighborhood better. It was also a good time to sell our old house. It worked out just fine. I’m sure some people will question it, but who cares? There’s something to be said for spending your money on things that improve your life. A house you like more makes a noticeable difference.

I’ve had neighbors in my condo building buy and move into a different unit.

It’s not weird. But if you’re trying to keep the other property and buy this new one as your primary residence, I guarantee you’re going to butt heads with underwriting.

I was a renter for 7 years and fell in love with the neighborhood! I ended up buying a condo two blocks over.

I say go for it! Think about the regret you’ll feel living down the street from your dream home & having to drive past it all the time…

We moved to a different house in our neighborhood to get a single story home. I know someone who moved next door to their old house.
