Hi all, I was involved in an at-fault accident. My vehicle has been repaired and I’ve already paid my deductible. My insurer has also paid $500 toward the other driver’s bodily injury claim.

I carry $50,000 in liability coverage that I have now increased. I am still concerned about potential exposure since the other party was driving a relatively new 2023 vehicle which had a KBB value of 40,000-45,000 and was totaled. However, my adjuster mentioned that these claims can take several months to fully resolve, especially since the other driver is going through their own insurance. They also reassured me that my policy limits should cover the situation.

I wanted to ask—does this typically mean the matter is essentially handled, or should I still be prepared for the possibility of out-of-pocket costs later on? The adjuster didn’t seem concerned, but I’d appreciate any insight.

Adjusters handle claims all day, every day. If they felt you might be out of pocket for some amount, they’d likely tell you.

    2. Does not necessarily mean it is handled, but their insurance will pay out on the vehicle and then pursue yours. Your insurance should try to settle within or at the policy limits depending on the damages. If they do, they should get a release for you if they tender limits. I would not worry at this point, just let the insurance handle it.
