Question for those who are versed in auto insurance. Yesterday, my Golf R was involved in a hit and run of sorts. I was behind a utility truck when all of a sudden, a piece of his truck flew off and hit my car. It punctured my secondary radiator so I lost all coolant and couldn't pursue. I didn't get a license plate since I was focused on the giant metal rack coming my way. He drove off. I called the police and they came out and wrote a report. Police officer said it was a glass carrying rack and that there are several glass companies down the road so it could be from any one of them. I'm in South Carolina so I automatically carry Uninsured Motorist coverage coverage. When I filed the claim my adjuster said that it sounded like it should be filed under comprehensive but I disagreed and told him I didn't hit an object already in the road, which is what he was thinking. A piece of the guys truck detached, hit the road, and went under my car then he fled. So I asked him if it could be filed under UMPD, he said he would check with liability and get back to me. What are my odds for this getting switched over. My deductible is $750 so I'd like to avoid paying that if I could.
