beginner questions

Hello everyone!
I am starting to get into investing in etfs like the QQQ, SCHB, VOO and more, and is crypto a good thing to invest in too? I am wondering because of how it is starting to explode, but my dad says I shouldn't invest in it today because he said that it could all be gone the next day, and it's not safe, and I could get scammed. Also, if I do change his mind, what would be good to get into? or is he being smarter than i believe and leave cryptocurrency alone as a new person to this world? Thanks!
