Most if not all vehicles made in the past decade have features/displays that help you monitor how well you are conserving your gas.

My 2015 Versa Note had a display that I eventually discovered and left up to show cumulative miles per gallon. I didn't do a lot of highway driving, but using that display to self-correct my wasteful driving habits, I modified how I drove to shift the average from 35mpg up to nearly 40 mpg. This was loads better than the ~25-30 mpg I got from my first vehicle.

Spoiler: retiring my lead foot and driving more passively helped boost that average up the most. This led to an ongoing challenge to try and go 400 miles between refuelings. I never quite made the goal, but the pursuit of the challenge lowered my gas spending by more than 10%.

My current vehicle, a Corolla Cross Hybrid, came to me with a 33.5 mpg average, but currently I'm clinging to 45.8 mpg. It has a smaller tank, so no 400 mile goals, but the savings continues to help me mitigate the $$damage$$ done at the gas station when I have to fill up.

Don't sleep on your vehicle's gas efficiency tracker/displays
