I've seen conflicting info, some say because it is off chain, and some wallets advertise as privacy focused and I've seen elsewhere that it is just as transparent as normal on chain Bitcoin.

Really looking to see if I give out my public address to receive, can a nosey person see my balance and/or transactions

    Is Bitcoin Lightning transparent?

The total amount of money in a LN channel is public.

Transactions over the LN channel are private, and which side owns how much of the total is private (at least until the channel is closed).

In theory Lightning is private inside channels. In reality most people use trustodial wallets like Wallet of Satoshi, which can see a lot of your transaction details.

Additionally if you gave someone a reusable address like [hairissues1@walletofsatoshi.com](mailto:hairissues1@walletofsatoshi.com), if someone sent you bitcoin from an exchange that exchange could profile you.
