New to all this and was wondering what a normal amount of bitcoin to have is? Are people just throwing 1k at this and calling it a day or do most people have a lot? And if so is there a maximum that you would consider unsafe to keep on an exchange?

100% port, in self custody.
Dollar cost average every week using Strike app. It has free withdrawal and you can determine at what amount the withdrawal happens
The rule is don’t leave more on the exchange than you are willing to lose..
At the same time you don’t Want to withdraw every $10 or you are going to have so many small transactions it will be costly when you decide to send it from your personal wallet
I will continue to buy every week until I can no longer afford to do so or once it hits a million per coin.
Around 20,000 bitcoin. You could probably survive on that.

There’s nothing like “normal amount”, what would be considered as “normal” for a “normal” person, would be to invest 10% of your income, every month, and not just into crypto.
Now if you want to invest only into crypto, which can be ok depending of your income (no real point investing into many things if you’re going to invest $50 per month), a “normal” person would invest those 10% monthly, and 80% of it into BTC (knowing there’s not many “normal” persons on these subs, I’ll probably get downvoted on that).
Don’t fono or stress about it. Just buy what you are able to based on what you can afford and what your bank limits you. Once the amount owned starts getting to the point of feeling worried if you lost it all just move it off the exchange into a cold storage wallet. In the meantime though study and learn all about cold storage and self custody so when the time comes you’re ready to rock and roll
Having more than one is already good.
Think of it like eating healthy. It’s never too late to start. Consume a bit regularly. Keep it where you (and only you) can get to it. You’ll be shocked how it’ll grow in value.
None– it can be hacked with new technology coming in just a few years.
Soon, it’ll cost money to own it or protect it. Think about that for a minute
