Wisconsin just got hit with some large rainfalls, which caused our cities sewer system to backup into our recently renovated basement. We quite literally installed carpet in the basement Tuesday morning and it flooded Tuesday night…

I submitted a claim, as we had sewer backup coverage. Our Statefarm agent said it’s considered a catastrophic event, and we should hear from an adjuster soon. A flood remediation team already came in to cut the drywall, remove the carpet/lvp, drain and sanitize.

Is it premature to start the remodel process before the adjuster gets here? I was told it could take a couple weeks, and I have the free time to start the remodel now.

How much of a risk am I taking by buying materials and begin the renovation before the adjuster comes?

Anything I can do to reduce that risk? Happy to provide more details.

    When can I begin remodeling?
