I recently opened my first credit card, Chase Freedom Unlimited. I have a 500 dollar credit limit, and I have about a $1.90 left until it hit the limit. I’ve been looking around to see if it will automatically decline any payments over $1.90, or if I can go over the limit. I want to hit the 500 dollar limit so I can get the 25,000 point new account bonus, should I just use it for gas and see if it auto stops after $1.90 is charged? I’m worried about going over the limit. Thanks for any help.

Your credit card won’t tell the pump how much of your limit is left to auto stop. Most gas stations will charge a hold on your credit card of $50-125 while you pump, since they don’t know how much you’ll end up with, then the bank releases the hold when the station submits the final amount and the final transaction posts to your account. So any automated pump will most likely decline your card. You would need to go inside and ask for an exact dollar amount to pump.
You can make a payment any time to open up the credit limit again. But yes you can use it at a gas station and the charge will go through.
