I am on my way to smashing the Instant Status Challenge for American Airlines' Platinum status. By mid Phase 2, I will be around 157K LPs.

Naturally, I want to get the AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®. I thought being a Citi Double Cash user since 2021 would net me some benefits in the application process, but no luck. I even asked if my CDC could be product changed and Citi bluntly said, "No, and please stop trying."

I don't know what to do. I would like this to be open and to maybe get Strate Premier in the future. Thanks in advance for any advice possible.

    Here's my Credit Karma info:

    • Payment history: 100%
    • Credit Card usage: 12.7%
    • Credit age: 12 yrs, 8 mos
    • Total accounts: 13
    • Hard Inquiries: 11
    • Open Cards: 12
    • Open Auto Loans: 1
    • Experian credit score: 747
    • Cards with Citibank, Chase, Amex, and Discover
    • Denied for "too many cards with empty balances" and "too many recent inquiries"

Citi Double Cash User since 2021 yet can't get approved for ANY Citi Card

11 hard inquiries might be what’s killing you – Citi can be really picky about that even with existing relationship

They don’t like inquiries, but I also wonder if they’re generally tightening down a bit – I have a brokerage, priority checking and savings, and four cards with them (AA Exec, AT&T Points, Strata Elite, Costco) and they turned me down today for a DC lol

How many of those 13 accounts have been opened in the last two years if you have 11 inquiries? What is the inquiry distribution across reports? Why not just go with a bank that pulls a different bureau?

Recon was a bust. Rep was firm on inquiries and amount of credit. Taking the advice from this thread and going to let my Experian report breathe for 6 months before trying again. Thanks everyone.
