Hi, I last worked 1/12. I did not work all of February and March, and I resigned on 4/1. I had my premiums deducted up until 1/12. My premium was in arrears in the time I did not work bc there was no pay check to deduct premium.
When I quit on 4/1, that triggered paperwork for cobra, but they backdated my loss of coverage date to 1/31 (end of the month of last worked day).
Now, if I want to enroll into cobra, I have to pay cobra premium all the way back to February. My notice date is based on when I resigned in April. They are giving me the full 60 days to elect based on resignation date and not loss of coverage date. Is this normal and how things work?
This leads to my next question – if I want to enroll into market place health insurance, is the within 60 days deadline to enroll based on my loss of coverage 1/31 or my cobra notice date 4/6?
