Hello. Please help. I currently have GEICO and I really would like to do Door Dash. I heard if you inquire about ride sharing add ons Geico will actually drop you? Is this true? Should I switch insurances to Progressive and add ride sharing services on for Door Dash to my personal? Thank youuuuuu so much in advance

    1. You should find an insurer that will give you the most coverage – including the ride sharing – for the best price. If that’s Progressive, great. If it’s GEICO, great. We can’t shop for you, but if you’re going to do gig work, don’t be dumb – buy the right coverage so that you don’t have a nasty surprise.

If you want to Door Dash, you’ll need to add (and pay for) a rideshare endorsement on your policy. If Geico offers that, cool. If you need to switch to another carrier that will insure you with a rideshare endorsement (so your’re actually covered when you’re doing deliveries), then switch.

I don’t think Geico likes the ride sharing/delivery risks. I don’t even think they’ll let you be with them if you deliver pizzas for papa John’s. They view these risks as commercial even though most personal insurance companies have endorsements for this. I know progressive, Nat Gen, travelers, auto owners, and safeco are all ok with it. It does come with more premium though.
