Just went from 650 to 750 overnight. Looking to get my first unsecured credit card. Would like a card that has good rewards (mostly groceries and/or gas) with a high CL for emergencies. I know capital one sucks with their credit limits, so would citi custom cash be good for me?

wait your score jumped 100 points overnight? that’s wild, what happened there?

anyway citi custom cash is solid for groceries since you can pick that as your 5% category, but the limit is $500 spend per quarter so if you’re doing serious grocery runs it caps out quick. capital one limits are definitely hit or miss but savorone gives you 3% on groceries with no cap, might be worth considering both options depending how much you actually spend in groceries each month.

    2. Why are looking to pay an annual fee? You’d need to spend $1,300 on groceries just to recoup that on the SavorOne.

Keep in mind that credit score that you’re looking at probably isn’t what the bank is considering when deciding what to approve you for (especially if it’s moving around that much).

For groceries and gas specifically, consider Amex Blue Cash Everyday. Better yet, the More Rewards card from Navy Federal if you qualify.

Stepping back, though, I recommend a good catch-all card that offers 2% back across the board. Good no AF options include Wells Fargo Active Cash, Citi Double Cash, Fidelity, and Navy Federal Cash Rewards Plus. Additional options exist but tend to be regional in nature or lack a SUB.
