Had a car involved in a deer strike January 2025, took it to a shop, after multiple adjustments the shop deemed the repair costs to be around 20k with State Farm only approving 15k for the repairs. State Farm originally deemed the car a total loss and then reversed their decision, stating they believe it to be repairable.

Shop wouldn’t start work, saying they’d be unable to do a full repair for the amount State Farm approved. Tried moving it to an approved State Farm repair center per their request, couldn’t find a shop that would take a car that had been worked on already at another shop. Lawyers uninterested due to the dispute being only 5k.

Finally found a shop that would take the car, State Farm goes to tow the car, original shop says they’ve been charging $175 a day storage. State Farm will only pay a portion of the storage and then tow the car. The amount State Farm would spend doing this is around $3500.

Is there any hope in negotiating a price to settle this situation with State Farm? The shop is continuing to charge this recently announced storage bill, and they’re wanting nearly 60k to release the car. They also won’t work on the car unless the 5k differences between supplements is approved, which State Farm has denied multiple times now. The car is valued at 27k but at this point I’d settle for less to get out of this mess.

I get that the shop is also causing turmoil, but I’m pulling teeth to try and get the car released from them. It’s also baffling to me that State Farm won’t agree on the 5k in repair costs, but will burn 3500 just to move the car while not knowing what the repair costs are going to be at a new shop.

    State Farm negotiation/options?
