I hired a salesman in LATAM to sell/push my direct store delivery (DSD) software. The software is for small to midsized distributors. It’s been a little more than a month and he hasn’t been able to close a single prospect. He has multiple prospects (40+) who supposedly have told him that they are extremely interested but he hasn’t closed any of them.

He started off very motivated, but it feels like he’s slowly giving up. Yesterday he didn’t even answer any of my calls, so I doubt he even showed up to work. Also there is a high probability he started using this job as a 2nd income as it’s very normalized to do this in LATAM. It’s a little more difficult managing him from far.

Just wanted to get your opinions on what I should do with him? Is 1 month enough or should I extend him to a 2 month trial? Trials are also normal in LATAM. Hes on a lower salary + high commission plan. We know something is going wrong, so we are going to hopefully try to contact him the next 3 days to figure out what going on.

Am I judging him too early? Is it too early to tell? What would you guys do?

Salesman not meeting results? Should I let him go early?

    1. Tough to do sales like this – maybe aim for a corporate sales company? There are teams that all they do is sell for a %.

    2. For those 40 prospects – do you have concrete artefacts? Booked demos, names/contacts? Any forms of commitment?
