President [Donald Trump](https://www.cnbc.com/donald-trump/) on Tuesday told CNBC that he will gratefully “remember” U.S. companies that do not seek [refunds for the tariffs](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/20/tariff-refunds-begin-on-monday-these-retailers-are-due-big-paydays.html) he unilaterally imposed, which the [Supreme Court](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/26/trump-supreme-court-tariffs-barrett-gorsuch-trade-ieepa-ruling.html) later ruled were illegal.

Trump’s comment on “[Squawk Box](https://www.cnbc.com/squawk-box-us/)” came a day after [U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened a portal](https://www.cbp.gov/trade/programs-administration/trade-remedies/ieepa-duty-refunds) for importers to seek more than $160 billion in potential refunds for the so-called [IEEPA tariffs](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/04/bessent-says-global-15percent-tariff-starts-this-week-move-back-to-prior-rates-within-5-months.html).

He was asked about a number of large companies, among them [Apple](https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/AAPL/) and [Amazon](https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/AMZN/), that have not filed requests for refunds for the tariffs they paid, potentially because they are worried about “offending” Trump.

Asked if he would find it offensive for them to seek a refund, Trump said, “Brilliant if they don’t do that.”

“Actually, if they don’t do that, they’ve got to know me very well,” he said. “I’m very honored by what you just said.”

“If they don’t do that, I’ll remember them,” Trump said.

    2. Fuck him. He stole money. Plain and simple. Shareholders rightly deserve to recover stolen money.

Interesting, any publicly traded company has a fiduciary duty to not waste money/resources. This would definitely be a very clear breach of a CEO’s obligation by not pursuing a refund. It’s free money that would have shareholders going into a frenzy.

    4. But let me guess, he’ll remember them a lot better if they refund half and “donate” the other half to his crypto.

If a federal official engages in corruption but no one is there to prosecute them, was a crime even committed?

    5. Trump is likely months from his deathbed and he’s so narcissistic he won’t be handing out cookies on his way out, companies don’t think long term enough but if they’re strategizing farther than a few months Trump shouldn’t be in their plans.

    6. Says the felon pedophile rapist who is taking $10 billion from the tax payers from his lawsuit regarding IRS releasing some finnisch tax information.

    7. for?? for when he declares himself dictator, and he’s forming an even more select oligarch and corruption class?

    8. He won’t be in office long enough to retaliate. I’m sure he will remember who crossed him, even with his dementia.

He’ll be out of office in 32 months. I’m sure companies are shaking in their boots about it.
