Been using a ledger Nano X for a year now with a small position in BTC. As I transition a large percent of my portfolio into BTC, should I continue to use the Ledger or upgrade?

Did some research into the company and came across the seed recovery. All the skepticism makes sense. I’ve been looking into getting a ColdCard MK5. The cybersecurity aspect being totally disconnected compared to the ledger seems very secure. Any recommendations?

I have a ledger nano x I carry everyday, also have a nano s plus, a flex, a jade and a Coldcard Q. I absolutely love my Coldcard and managing my coins via sparrow. I use the nunchuk app on my iPhone and sparrow on my windows laptop. If you’re used to using a ledger and switch to a cold card there’s going to be a learning curve for sure. The amount of things the Coldcard can do is really amazing, from creating your seed with dice rolls to create uniqueness, to being able to put all kinds of unique spending limits and inheritance planning. Cold card is one of the most feature rich devices I have ever owned.

    2. I would definitely switch away from Ledger. Cold Card is absolutely solid. One thing I advise is generating a new seed phrase with your cold card. Don’t reuse the old one from Ledger – there is no way to know if there is a backdoor to ledger or if your seedphrase has already been uploaded somewhere. Have the peace of mind by generating a new one.

For your software wallet to interact with coldcard, Sparrow wallet is fantastic. FYI, sparrow is desktop only. There is no mobile app version. I don’t want you to download a fake one and lose your entire stack, which is what happened to someone last year. And remember, NEVER enter your seedphrase into an app, website, or internet connected device. Only enter it into your offline hardware device. That’s how that guy lost his life savings – he entered his seedphrase into a fake mobile app. In the desktop app, you will only be uploading your pubkey, NOT your seedphrase.

I still use a ledger nano X as my “warm wallet” but only with $500 or less on it. I don’t trust it, but the build quality, convenience and portability are all still excellent.

No harm in upgrading if you have the cash, and generate a new seed phrase. Personally I’m sticking with an ancient Trezor for my cold wallet, but the coldcard is absolutely a wallet Id love to have.

    4. If you want to use the wallet on your phone via Bluetooth, the Safe 7.

Otherwise Safe 3 for hodling, Safe 5 for more regular usage (touch screen is nice).
