I've been with SF almost 5 decades, was forced to change local agents a few years back when my last one retired. It's a very convenient location and therefore very busy office. They were annoyed to run occasional 'what if' scenarios for me, so I could judge cost against my risk tolerance. Then in the last year, they really went off the rails with multiple lost forms (related to declining uninsured/underinsured), severely mis-underestimated the cost of adding a new driver to a policy, and just found out someone issued a new homeowner policy almost a year ago, the day before my web bill pay paid the quoted coverage I thought I was buying (6 days before renewal), leaving me with about 1/6 the personal property coverage I paid for.

Having enough with the repeated issues (never a problem in the rest of 5 decades), I changed agents, and it was the newest who informed me of the additional homeowners policy that was issued and low coverage level. Now being a bit of a packrat (I have insurance policy statement/bills going back 15 years or more. No memory or evidence the revised policy was ever received. Granted, it conceivably could have been lost in mail, but I'm convinced I never received it. Never received a premium refund to reflect the lower cost of the reduced coverage.

No idea what prompted the change, the new agent said somebody had to go in and not only adjust the coverage to super low level, but had to check a flag somewhere to reflect the high risk choice. The newest agents advice was 'always check your policy to ensure it reflects what you think you requested', which in theory sounds good, unless the new policy is never received so a buyer is unaware. My lesson learned is, if you get a bad agent, leave sooner than later; and call to confirm actual coverage after renewals, and check that the agent states you have what you actually think you bought.
