Good afternoon everyone. I have a family member in a bit of a mind-boggling conundrum. One night a car reverses over her fence and drives through her house(alleged medical emergency) The damage is a sedan sized hole that knocks out a window and of course damage all around the hole the car left along with her chain linked fence. I’m assuming her wooden floors are also damaged to an extent. I imagined this would be a pretty cut and dry case where the car insurance pays for all the damages at a premium.
Instead her home insurance is only offering her $8,500 total for the damages and on top of that has to pay her $2k deductible that will be subtracted from the total. They’re not budging from this despite her getting a public adjuster that states the damages are at least 40k because of structural damage to the foundation. This is all occurring in the NE where COL is much higher so that makes sense to me. This has been dragging on for more than a month. I suggested gathering quotes, the police report and just targeting the car insurance directly. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to better pursue this issue? At the moment the house is boarded up and it’s a 3 family with a tenant living in the affected apartment.

Not really enough info here except to say she should be asking her public adjuster these questions.
Get a contractor and get a real quote. Get an engineer and determine if there is legitimate structure damage to determine the cost of repairs. Or go to appraisal. The deductible is owed regardless of fault the family member chose that. Ask these questions to your PA, if it cost 40k assume you pay the 10% your family member will have to come out of pocket $6k for the repairs to be done according to that math
Your burying important details. Regardless he Public Adjuster or hiring a lawyer are her paths forward. Not Reddit.
