Investments as collateral

Let's say I have investments beyond just stocks and not necessarily real estate. Is it possible or easy to find a lender willing to use it as collateral for a loan?

I'm talking about somewhat liquid investments that are actively traded and have a publicly known valuation. I'm referring to assets that, had I sold them, would trigger a US capital gains tax.

If possible, how would I find a reasonable lender?
