Hi all,
I'm a Philosophy major and Economics minor within a PPE program.
To put it simply; I've found that I am not really interested in the bulk of the content I've come across in my Economics minor so far. I struggled with Intermediate Microeconomics, though I loved the game theory sections in the last two weeks, but frankly was not very interested in the bulk of the material aside from that. I've also found I'm really not that interested in Macro.
The underlying Mathematical tools that Economics seems to use the most are fundamentally continuous, i.e. calculus and statistics. These are things that I can do but they aren't really what I am good at.
I'm much better at more discrete maths and logic, which is why I think I like game theory. There are third year selective courses that are within this scope in Economics, specifically a game theory course and a social choice theory course. I'm also doing the entire Philosophical Logic track and am loving it, hence why I'm pretty sure those courses would probably be more within the window of my skills and interests.
Is it worth keeping my Economics minor and just gritting my teeth, getting through the material I don't like, so I can access the stuff I seem to enjoy more and am probably better at? The reason I'm asking this question is because it seems as if I don't enjoy the "core" of Economics material that much, in the way that you guys probably do.
Also, the specific reason I want to take these courses is that there's research I want to pursue in the future in relation to logic and choice, though that's all kind of in the air right now.
Thank you!
Worth keeping an Economics minor just to do game theory?
