recently, my mom got scammed of I think a little bit above 1000 dollars, for some reason she thought it was me, but its not, on Monday (2 days from now) the bank might find out who did it, but until then she still thinks its me, can you guys tell me if they will tell my mom who committed fraud on her account? and by the way she works with Wells Fargo, it that helps with anything.

are banks able to tell the customer the name of who committed fraud on their account

    1. If, for some reason, they can’t tell her who it was, they can definitely tell her it wasn’t you.

    2. No, they won’t divulge details. Typically those are only released to law enforcement.

I work at a credit union.

    3. No. I had someone steal a check from a mailbox. They then charged some cable bills and an insurance bill. The bank and the businesses clearly knew who did it but would not tell me. The charges were reversed eventually but I doubt anything happened to the thieves.

It was a huge hassle to switch everything over to a new account.

    4. A scam usually requires being duped by someone via some form of communication (text, chat, call, video, in person, etc.). Are you saying she thought the scammer she talked to is you?

    5. Depends, but generally they can release the information of the recipient as known to the receiving bank. For checks, you’re only going to get the information of the bank where it was cashed. You’ll only find our their information if they’re charged.
