Tofu is cheap, healthy and delicious, so it's ironic that tofu presses cost a small fortune. The DIY versions are great, but they require purchase of the supplies. You actually don't need ANY of that!

Just keep the original plastic box from your previous cook. Open up new tofu box and squish it on top, weigh it down with a container of water, and let gravity handle the rest.

The built-in grooves provide perfect drainage—no hole-punching required. It’s a zero-cost, zero-clutter way to get better texture without the extra gear.

    Enjoy!

    1. Genius! I got a stainless steel press off Amazon for $20 that works pretty well, but Im often making more than one container, so this trick would allow me to drain the second one at the same time without having to remember to store an old one.

      Thank you!

After trying diffsrent methods, the best for me is to slice the tofu horizontally, separate then, wrap them in a clean kitchen towel(I keep one I only for tofu) & lay a heavy cast iron skillet on top.

I always just wrap it in a towel and then put a cast iron pan on top of it.

    4. Boiling tofu for 10 minutes in salted water achieves the same result. I prefer to press to save time, but boiling can be an alternative

    5. Extra firm doesn’t even need pressing. Squeeze it once with your hands over the sink and start cooking.

I cut it up, put it between paper towels, with a plate on the top and bottom, and a knife block on the top for weight. I change the paper towels once and it’s always perfect.
