History: was on the PSLF track until last fall when I hadn't recertified in time. I got kicked back to EdFinancial and then got fired, so I have recertified yet. Before Mohela I was in default for 8 years or so. Once I got out of default all my payments have been on time. At one point I applied to SAVE but never heard anything back. I owe about 18k.

I am about 10 days late paying my loans. I logged in today and it says I have a forbearance until 5/26. I never applied for one. Is this part of the ongoing SAVE debacle? Should I make a payment anyway to preserve my PSLF eligibility?

Scanned the sub to see if this was already answered but I didn't see it. Sorry if I missed something.

    1. that’s weird, same thing happened to my buddy last month – just showed up without him asking for it. probably has something to do with all the SAVE mess going on right now since you mentioned applying for that

i’d still make the payment if you can swing it, better safe than sorry with PSLF stuff since that program is already such pain in the ass to navigate

    2. You should contact your servicer about the forbearance.

Making payments during forbearance doesn’t count towards forgiveness. And payments also don’t count for PSLF if you don’t have qualifying employment.
