I am 21 will be starting a travel job with an 80k salary in May that would require me to book the travel accommodations and receive reimbursement. I want to get a credit card with the best cash back/rewards for my travel. Before this job offer, I was a college student and made less than 10k a year, so I am unsure who will approve me since I don't have pay stubs yet. I plan to use any rewards I acquire on person travel.

I have heard that the best cards on the market are the Capital One Venture X (especially in combination with the Capital One Savor Card), the Citi Strata Premier, Citi Custom Cash, but I don't know if there is better/how hard these cards are to get. Any help/advice would be appreciated!

    Template for Card Recommendation Requests:

    • Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of: Quicksilver, Capital One card with a $2000 limit 3/2025, and a $500 emergency line of credit with my credit union that I opened when I turned 18 (opened around July 2023)
    • FICO Score: Capital 1 provided me a FICO score of 765
    • Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 24 months: 1 (the Capital One card)
    • Annual income: 80k

Just got a high-paying travel job and am looking for Advice on a credit card?

oh this is exciting timing for you! the venture x is solid choice but might be tough approval since you don’t have actual pay stubs yet from new job. with your 765 score though you have good foundation

i’d suggest maybe starting with chase sapphire preferred since they’re bit more forgiving and you get solid travel rewards. also the custom cash is really good for specific categories if you can maximize the 5% back. since you already have capital one relationship that might help with venture x application but they usually want to see income history

one thing – when you apply make sure to list your new salary as annual income even without pay stubs yet. most banks accept offer letters as proof. just keep spending reasonable in first few months until reimbursements start flowing properly because travel expenses can add up quick before you get paid back

maybe wait month or two after starting job to apply for premium cards? gives you chance to establish income pattern and maybe even better approval odds
