Anyone went back to a traditional job after being an entrepreneur for several years? What do you even apply to that's not sales? Do companies even consider people who were self employed for a long period of time?

For context: I've been working with small businesses for almost 8 years now and honestly this AI economy is exhausting. It used to be "my cousin can do this for a 6 pack of beer, why should we hire you" and now it's "we got this done by our nephew with ChatGPT, we don't need you" As ai tools get better I dont see it improving either. It's not even a matter of objection handling, it's just a solid decline in value in the eyes of the small business owner.

So I'm strongly considering just putting the business in maintenance mode, taking a while to just chill before I go crazy, then going to traditional employment. But most places that I read online say that being an entrepreneur is a non-starter when you're trying to get a regular job. Anyone have experience or advice in navigating this?

Do people go back after doing this for a while? 100%. What you apply to is completely industry dependent, I don’t know your skills and abilities. And do companies consider people doing entrepreneurship? Of course, it’s just a bit different.

You can certainly use your business as job experience for these new roles, there is a lot that goes into running a business that looks great on a resume. Lots of times people get into a “post career industry”

There are definitely red flags when the hiring manager sees business owner. Here’s what they could be thinking.

Couldn’t cut it so how good are they?

      Have issues with authority.

They’re just saving up enough money to start their next thing.
