I missed the opportunity to get my teeth professionally whitened a while back, and I'm regretting it. I can't get myself to drop precious dough on the whitening strips, though. Does anyone know of more affordable ways to go about this? I know it's a bit silly to even care about such a thing, but I figured I'd ask the pros.
It's a bit silly to care too much about, I know, but I thought I'd just ask Incase anyone has had success in a pinch.
Thanks!
DIY teeth whitening? I know it's not exactly frugal to do in the first place, but I thought I'd just ask

This is one of those things where I’ll only have a pro do. That enamel on your teeth is pretty precious. A lot of diy stuff will strip it and make your teeth whiter. This destroys your teeth over time.
I get my normal toothpaste that I brush with my manual toothbrush first, and I use my electric toothbrush (cheap on Amazon) with my teeth whitening toothpaste after.
I’m in the same boat as you. I just started a few days ago so I’ll report back in about a month and let you know how it worked out
You can get some improvement if you brush with baking soda and then regular toothpaste.
No point. My teeth are falling out.
Use a q tip dipped in hydrogen peroxide and rinse thoroughly after. Peroxide not cause any tissue damage in your gums when used with care.
Honestly, you don’t need to spend a ton. Whitening strips are probably your best bet for the price—they actually work if you stick with them for a couple weeks. If that’s still too much, a whitening pen or even just a decent whitening toothpaste + cutting back on coffee/tea for a bit can make a noticeable difference. Nothing crazy, but definitely enough to feel better about your smile 👍
Check Slickdeals for Crest Whitestrips. I suggested these cause they worked well for me, and a good sized kit can be had for less than $30.
PS – I’m frugal, but I have also realized it’s acceptable to spend money on myself.
I just started doing this: make a paste with baking soda and peroxide and brushe for a while. Then swish around for like 2 minutes then brush with normal toothpaste. I ve done it 3 times and what a difference. Think you’re supposed to do it 3 times per week. It really does work
Isn’t it granny’s toothpaste better than anything else?
Hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and add mint or something if you want and cinnamon for sweetness etc?
I bought a £4 purple toothpaste from a local drugstore (UK) and it actually works amazingly well! I smoke and drink copious amounts of coffee so my teeth have always had a yellow tinge, but my teeth were noticeably whiter after just a few uses
Whitening can be bad for your enamel. It should only be done by a professional for that reason
I have prescription toothpaste from my dentist.
I started using charcoal toothpaste a few years ago. After about a month, I had a lot of people ask me if I got my teeth whitened. It made me feel so good.
try mixing baking soda with a bit of hydrogen peroxide to make a paste, it’s super cheap and can help with stains. just don’t overdo it, you don’t wanna mess up your enamel!
Dilute hydrogen peroxide with water and use as a mouth rinse.
The kits on amazon with the little UV light device you hold in your mouth work pretty well. Good for a couple shades anyway.
By hydrogen peroxide, 3%. Cut it in half with water. Swish in mouth for a minute every night. whitening will happen very gradually.
Put a little baking soda in your tooth paste a couple times a week. Gentle brushing.
Baking soda…
