I was rear ended Saturday night by a teenager. Nothing major my hitch cover is damaged and I’ve got a few chips in the paint on my bumper. I probably would just ignore it and move on with my life except I got this car new 3 months ago. I have family that works in the auto body repair industry and I know they would help me fix it at cost which would be $300 ish. I don’t won’t to pay for it myself since I’m not the one to have caused the accident. Would you text the teenagers parents to settle it outside of a claim since I have these connections and could potentially save them money given the standard deductible around here or would you recommend sticking to the traditional claims route.

    What would you do?

You can make the offer. Assuming this is the US (and you’re not in Michigan), your damage claim against their liability policy won’t cause anybody to pay a deductible. But the flip side is that the at-fault claim would almost assuredly cause their rates to go up. But that also assumes they properly listed their teenager on their policy and you won’t run into coverage issues by filing against their policy.
