quick question regarding gender mistake

recently discovered my health insurance card has the wrong gender marker (it does not match my id or birth certificate) on it, but it has been covering everything without issue. i currently have a claim pending that i have been fighting, but i need my insurance to match my id/birth certificate for a surgery i have coming up in order for them to cover it, so i need this to be corrected ASAP. would calling them during the processing of this claim mess up the claim? i really can't afford the claim out of pocket atm but i also can't afford to put the surgery off any longer either.
