My grandpa got into an accident in January of 2022, he had bruised his spinal cord, and is still wheel chair bound. He isn't paralyzed, he can move, but his whole body is so stiff and hes so weak that we need to help him with a lot, hes unable to get out of his wheel chair on his own, and I have to transfer him whenever he has to go to the bathroom or take a shower.

He's been going to out patient therapy about 2 times a week, for about 45 or so minutes each, but the progress is so slow that any set backs he has puts him back to square 1.

In patient therapy options are limited, he had recently been approved for in patient, but it only allowed him 2 weeks, in that time he made a bit of upper body progress, but he lost strength in his legs even tho they were exercising them, it wasn't long enough.

I've tried exercising him daily, but neither him nor I can stick with it. I don't have what it takes to give him therapy daily.

What options do we have here? Is there a way to get our insurance to permit more PT? At this rate he'll never get out of his wheelchair on his own.

Grandpa needs more physical therapy, but insurance doesn't give us enough for him to make progress

In between of physical therapy appointments that he has in person, there are exercises that he has to do on a daily basis…. which it sounds like he knows and you know and he doesn’t want to do it.

So, why would the insurance company pay to send him to more appointments when he won’t listen to the therapist and do the ones he’s supposed to do at home?

Well someone who can stick with it needs to step in here. He is not going to make meaningful progress until he begins to do exercises outside of PT or in patient.
