I’ll try to keep this as short as possible my dog got out, attacked another dog. The owner of that dog stuck their knee in between the two dogs and was a bit did not break skin and they went to the ER. They told me I had to put the dog down tonight, we’re not gonna call the cops, but you gotta take care of this, did not put the dog down and the cops were called and the cop said that’s not how this works. So long story short, we still have the dog, she’s not people aggressive. She just doesn’t like certain dogs again, working on that. They asked for my homeowners insurance. I told them I already made a claim which I did and today I received a letter in the mail from a law firm. Because she has minimal injuries, what does this outcome look like?

Your insurance will investigate the claim and if they confirm coverage and accept liability then they will attempt to settle the claim within your policy limits.
Once the claim settles, you will almost certainly be non-renewed unless you provide proof the dog was euthanized or turned over to a rescue. Claims can take up to a couple years to settle, so start preparing for this eventuality now. It will be extremely difficult to acquire insurance with a dog bite claim on your history if you retain the dog.
why are you making a claim on your insurance.? you have no injury
You make a claim on your own liability insurance so you don’t get your ass sued and you lose your house. with that being said nobody’s gonna be able to tell the OP what’s gonna happen especially since the other party got an attorney, but I bet the other part is going to get little to no money after their hospital bills and attorney fees are all said and done.
What did the letter say? They should be communicating to your insurance co. Call your adjuster – they can probably answer your questions.
If you have coverage, your carrier will attempt to settle for within your policy limits. Come renewal time you will probably need to find another carrier (maybe not). You might have a much higher rate regardless.
If your dog bites a human, he is people aggressive. Pretty much at any time.
But the thing is, he got out and attacked a dog, then bit a human. It sounds like he instigated this even with another human there. That’s bad news my guy.
With respect to how it must feel to have to deal with this sort of thing – if my son were attacked by a dog and got bit, even if the skin wasn’t broken, I would expect the dog to be put down. If your dog attacks someone in the future after you knew this could happen then what? Whose fault was that? You already knew this about the dog and valued the dog over future human harm.
That’s the logic here.
